Building

The Central Library is located in a 6-storey building divided in two sections (section A: spaces inside the main library, Section B: spaces outside the library).The library occupies 14.500 sq. f. out of the total 17.396, 62 sq.f. of the entire building.

The library & information center of the UI consists of:

  1. i. The central library which is located in a building in the center of the university campus and houses the following disciplines: Medicine, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Biology, Economics, Arts, Preschool Education, Philology, Philosophy, History and Archaeology, Psychology
  2. The library of mathematics which is situated in the building of the School of Mathematics
  3. The library of the university School of Agrinio which consists of three disciplines :
    a) Department of Business Administration of Food and Agricultural Products

    b) Department of Environmental and Natural Resources   Management  

    c) Department of Cultural Heritage Management and New Technologies
  4. The closed collection which contains materials of limited demand (back issues of journals and books) and is housed in the basement of the former library of the medical School of the UI

The collection is organized according to the DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification) System

Student collection, Theses & dissertations, Series, Encyclopedias, Journals of general interest, videotapes, rare books, BRAILLE collection.

The library services are located throughout the library building:

Ground Floor (B): Book acquisition, Journal acquisition, Technical Services
1st Floor (1.B): Computing & Digitizing office, Gallery, Seminar Lab.
2nd Floor (2. B): Auditorium, Meeting Lounge
5th Floor: Library Director, Administrative office, Technical Services
6th Floor: Private research offices, Total Quality Management Unit (TQMU), European Community Administrative Office.
