The
University of Ioannina participated in a number of
projects funded by the European Community which encompassed
the first phase of an attempt to develop and advance
the library and its services. The most important of
those projects were:
A) Project Coordinator: Prof.: O. Tsolas
Title: "Modernization and improvement of the Library of the University of Ioannina
(LIBRARY-U.I.)"
Budget: 1.200.000.000 drachmas - co-financed by the European Social Fund
Aims: Employment of specialized personnel
Specialization of personnel
Improvement of infrastructure
Enhancement of collections Creation of OPAC
Establishment of a local cd-rom network
Participation of the library to information and Library networks
Operation of a documentation and information center
Period: 1996-2000.

B) Project Coordinator: Prof. N. Marmaridis
Title:"Relocation of the library premises and digital organization of the University
Library (e-Library - UOI)"
Budget: €2.567.739 - co-financed by the European Social Fund
Aims: Supporting the educational and teaching process by organizing online tutorials
and creating portals
Upgrading the technological infrastructure of the library
Improving the library collections and its technologies
Providing services to people with disabilities
Use of performance indicators for the implementation of
practices and methods of improving library efficiency.
Period: 2000-2007
The
second stage of that attempt included the participation
in the European projects called: "Supporting and
enriching the Academic Libraries" and "Equipping
Academic Libraries" and will be concluded at the
end of 2007. |
